September 2025 | Transitions

August 28, 2025

September is a big month for transitions: returning to “normal” schedules, the changing of seasons, the metamorphosis of an easier, breezier way of life that comes with summer into the breakneck to-do list that has come to be autumn.

Transitions can seem difficult. As periods where things are naturally in flux, we can find ourselves feeling anxious amidst all of the change, not knowing how to do things perfectly, needing to adjust course along the way—suddenly, we’re novices to the lives on which we’d had such a firm handle until just now. That’s scary. But, counterpoint: isn’t it also kind of fun?

Transitional times can be exciting because there’s so much we don’t know and are figuring out. We get a chance to refresh our lives during these periods: find new ways of doing things and new ideas to expand how we see the world. In times of change, we get to change and become new versions of ourselves.

The trickiest part of the transition from summer into autumn is that everything feels more demanding. There’s more to do and fewer hours of sunlight in which to do them. A key area of growth, then, is learning to adapt how we live within this changing time. Developing our own flexibility (socially, mentally, and emotionally) allows us to bend with these changes, rather than break. We also have to remember that we simply can’t do everything: we all have limits and it’s important to understand what your limits are and when to draw a line for yourself when you’ve reached them.

If you feel like you need help with these things, you’re not alone. Our therapists provide expert support in helping you learn how to navigate transitions well, so you can make the most of periods of change.
